Full Circle
Sydney Birch with her 7th grade TruthGirlz group.
My name is Sydney Birch and I am a new TruthGirlz mentor. While I am new to being a mentor, TruthGirlz is not new to me. I started TruthGirlz in 2014 as a 7th grader and continued up through my senior year in 2020. To this day I believe that TruthGirlz helped shape who I am as a person.
While in school, TruthGirlz was a safe space for me to talk about things that I was going through, learn from trusted mentors, create deep friendships and learn more about God. All of these things were things I really needed in middle school and high school because those are some of the hardest years for teen girls. I know because they were hard for me too! But TruthGirlz was where I learned to focus on what the Bible says about God’s love for me. I also learned to recognize who I am and who I want to be, which became very relevant when I moved away to college on my own. TruthGirlz helped me establish the foundation of my identity. It helped me set and defend my boundaries as a believer in Jesus, as a woman, and as myself.
Being in college, I have realized we live in a world that can often push on who we are; but TruthGirlz taught me how to address these issues and stand firm against all kinds of pressure. I know that without TruthGirlz and my amazing mentors, who still pour into my life, I would not be the young woman I am today.
They say “Once a TruthGirl, always a TruthGirl” and they mean it!
Every young girl deserves to be loved, listened to, and taught all of these very important things like I was when I was in TruthGirlz. Serving as a mentor is important to me because I want to give girls all the love, encouragement and wisdom given to me. I have enjoyed being a mentor so much and can’t wait to see what God has in store in the lives of these girls!
